ARTIST STATEMENT
Khashayar entered my life several years ago, during a smoke break outside a show at the Garrison. We became fast friends. Got to chatting immediately about uncanny things. What really filled me with energy was a feeling that we both ran amok in the minutiae of things; that observations and connecting dots were exciting things no matter the seeming banality of the topic. To this day, I can trust him to receive an observation or question with sincerity, often raising up his arm to rest upon his head, like a satellite. His eyes go just past mine; he seems to really see the train of thought. They meet mine as he responds with thoughts from his latest read, a conversation, art he’s seen, his youth in Iran and his experience immigrating to Canada via Dubai. In this portrait at his home near Roncesvalles, he has received the question, and happy for a friend I await his idea.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Tristram (Tram) Pinney is an artist, woodworker and illustrator based in Toronto, Ontario. He paints accumulations of time elapsed; spent in familiar places, with people and mistakes in the shadow of daydreams. Memories, figurative painting predominantly from life, and an affection for quiet horror are the lifeblood of his work.
