Artist Statement

I am interested in exploring the face as a site of both revelation and concealment; a point of constant negotiation as one navigates between the inner self and outward appearances. I want to explore the social or personal transformations that occur when one physically conceals or alters their appearance and how that influences our perception of them.

Solo Exhibitions

Include: the Portrait Gallery in Cairo, Egypt; Parry Sound Station Gallery; the Akin Gallery in Peterborough; the Temiskaming Art Gallery in Haileybury; Arts Underground, YA@W, and Rah Rah Galleries in Whitehorse.

Group Exhibitions

Numerous juried group exhibitions in Ontario, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Yukon, including the Women Visual Artists Exhibition in the Zimbabwe National Gallery; the ‘International Art Symposium and Exhibition’ in Egypt; and the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour. I was a finalist in the 2013 Kingston Prize.

Awards, Grants and Commissions

I have won several awards including from the Women Visual Artists Exhibition in Zimbabwe, the Northern Ontario Art Association, and Trent University’s Annual Alumni House Student Art Show. I was commissioned to paint the portrait of Mayor Sylvia Sutherland for display in Peterborough City Hall. I have works in public and private collections in Ontario, Egypt, the U.S., South Africa, the U. K. and Yukon, including the Yukon Permanent Art Collection. I was the recipient of a Touring Artist Grant from the Yukon Government.

I teach art workshops and courses in the Yukon Territory and am a member of the Yukon Artists @ Work Art Co-op.

Education

2011 Honours Bachelor of Art from Trent University, with a major in Cultural Studies and a minor in Philosophy.
