ARTIST STATEMENT
Slippers explores female rage as experienced in everyday, domestic life. In a Chinese household, slippers are expected for guests and offering them is the first sign of a warm welcome. After, the slippers are to be neatly put away. In my household, I rarely host. Now, my husband is a social butterfly with a penchant for dinner parties. It seems that after such events, I am automatically responsible for cleaning up and putting away the slippers. It has become a ritual I have grown to resent. This painting represents the beginning of that heated conversation. But of course, the fight over the slippers is never really about the slippers.
