ARTIST STATEMENT

I met Tolu Oyetunji who is a milliner at an art gallery and she had such striking look that was captivating. She had on lifelike orchid earrings, round hat made of denim and dress that had tropical fruits pattern. I mustered up courage and asked her if I can do a painting of her and she kindly welcomed me to her home for a photo session. I was able to get some decent references of Tolu inside the house and outside which I have used for this painting.
