Artist Statement

Every few years I have painted a self-portrait to document my existence and artistic interests at that moment in time. This self-portrait was painted in oils during the first two weeks of April 2015. I was seated in front of a mirror and painted my reflected image which was illuminated by a combination of incandescent light and daylight. This new self-portrait hinges on a series of monoprint portraits which I have been exhibiting over the last two years, as well as my current non-objective work.

Biography

Shawn Shepherd is primarily self-taught with an informal education sourced from local artists, books and travels to art museums in France, Italy, Mexico, USA and Canada. His exhibitions have been reviewed in The Globe & Mail, The Victoria Times Colonist, Monday Magazine, and numerous other newspapers and magazines. His work is in public, corporate and private collections in Canada, USA, England, Japan, China, and Switzerland. Shawn is a multidisciplinary artist currently working and residing in Victoria, BC.
