Title: Algonquin Bride (self-portrait)
Media: Oil on wood panel / huile sur panneau de bois
Dimensions: 152.5 x 117 cm

I have created several self- portraits throughout my career. However, Algonquin Bride reveals the most. I stand on the diving platform, on our dock, at our cabin, deeply engrossed in the landscape, on the north- western boarder of Algonquin Park. I am wearing my wedding dress, remembering all that was and dreaming of what may be.

I fell in love with my husband, myself and my country, in Algonquin Park. Those lakes, trees, animals, winds, springs and soil grabbed me and made me a part of it all. That area feels like my ancient home- my birthplace, wedding place, place of child conception and growing. I tried my very hardest to paint the quality of light and life that exists in that corner of our country. I also attempted to show the monumental impact it has on me.

I chose to depict my self looking at my environment rather than looking directly at the viewer. I wanted to give the viewer ample space to enter my world and freely look at me in it.
