Title: Courage with Hearts
Media: Oil on canvas / huile sur toile
Dimensions: 46 x 76 cm

I am primarily a figurative painter. I paint commissioned portraits as well as portraits of my family and friends, working from life and photographs in oil on canvas. Courage with Hearts is a painting of my granddaughter after her bath, preparing herself in front of a mirrored dresser. Everything around her, the childhood objects, the open door and the reflection in the mirror are part of her childhood, but also tell of her growth into womanhood. The painting shows the passage of time as she is nurtured, protected and woven into the stories of the women in my family.
