The concept of a portrait is of a representation of a subject but it can also be a representation of an idea. A racially mixed family is a portrait of a successful Canada and of the future of culture. It is a representation of multiculturalism and a reminder of Canada’s migratory roots.

Matthew Schofield graduated with honours from Ontario College of Art and Design (1997) and McMaster University (2000). He exhibits his paintings locally and internationally on a yearly basis in commercial galleries and artist run centres. Matthew’s digital painting have been nominated for many awards including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special and also two Gemini Nominations for Best Visual Effects.

Recently, Matthew has explored the notion of reverse engineering subconscious thought. The imagery he produces is plucked from the random imagery and distraction one encounters in day to day life and pieced back together in a continuous tapestry.
