ARTIST STATEMENT
A portrait of my friend Andrew — a family man, a senior member of the RCMP, and a dapper gentleman through and through. He has over 30 years of service in several key roles with the Peel Regional Police before transferring to an integral position within the RCMP. His dedication to the community and country at large, as an outstanding Canadian, makes him an ideal choice as the subject of my painting. Frequently wearing classic attire that harkens back to his earlier British upbringing, I chose to emphasize his distinguished look by pairing it with my own abstract style as a way of injecting dynamic colour and pattern into the composition. My work typically incorporates impressionistic imagery inspired by Canadian nature, blended with figurative subjects and a modern urban sensibility.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Kyle Stewart is an artist and adjunct professor at Toronto Metropolitan University. He was raised in a farmhouse near St. Thomas, Ontario. His father was a potter from Detroit, Michigan, and his mother a painter from London, England. He graduated from the fine arts program at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. From 2003, he lived and worked in Toronto, and more recently set up a new studio in Cobourg, Ontario. His work has been exhibited and collected throughout Canada, the United Kingdom, and the USA. His paintings merge loose impressionistic imagery with elements of realism and figurative subject matter.
