ARTIST STATEMENT
Tea Party captures Rima and Lauren, two Calgary-based ceramic artists whose close friendship fosters mutual artistic inspiration. Each holds a clay piece they crafted early in their ceramic journey, symbolizing both their individual growth and shared creative path. In creating this piece, I approached the drawing as I would clay—experimenting with my materials and layering. The graphite marks, brushed delicately around and into the figures, create a dynamic tension that pushes and pulls the composition, inviting a sense of movement and depth within the space.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Kelly Isaak is a figurative artist based in Calgary, Canada. Her work focuses on exploring storytelling through the lens
of the Female Gaze, with a particular emphasis on drawing. Her current body of work examines the nuances of
familial bonds, romantic partnerships, and other strong interpersonal connections. Isaak is a studio artist at NVRLND.
Studios and also teaches within the Continuing Education department at the Alberta University of the Arts.
