The inspiration for this portrait emerged as a result of an offhand remark from a prominent financial expert. His comments concerned the unimportance of the pursuit of an education in a field such as philosophy in today’s economy. I found this rather odd, as philosophy is the study of reason and logic, something which seems to be often overlooked in our current political and economic systems, with often devastating results. My model is a graduating philosophy student who is passionate about her chosen field and like many of her counterparts challenges us to ask questions about ourselves and our beliefs. I wanted to present her in a way that forces us to engage with her.
