ARTIST STATEMENT
This self-portrait explores my role as an artist within an economic system that demands divided attention. It reflects on scarcity—of time, energy, capital, and resources—and how these constraints shape my practice. As I contemplate these pressures, I also reflect on how art bends to cultural trends and economic persuasion. My near-constant internal dialogue is masked by a look of mild concern, while the surrounding environment mirrors this tension. The imagery layers personal narrative with symbolic gestures that evoke both limitation and possibility.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Kale Vandenbroek is a graduate of the Alberta University of the Arts in Print Media and now works out of Toronto. His work weaves together autobiographical narratives, creating a world where symbols serve as a delicate yet powerful language. In this world, Kale deepens his understanding of life’s complexities by breaking these concepts into more comprehensive pieces. Love, death, and queerness become starting points for deeper insight.
