The subject of my work is relationships.

On one level it is about perception and finding the formal and structural relationships, through direct observation, between an ear or a shine on a forehead and their corresponding marks on the canvas.

On another level it is about these formal concerns becoming intertwined with subjective meaning
to form content.

My intent with this body of work was to approach the process of painting a portrait as conceptual tool and to utilize its confrontational, suggestive and psychological potential. My work is about perceiving and being perceived, reflecting and being reflected upon.
