This self portrait was done from a mirror. I am wearing the grey sweater I wear everyday painting-my painting sweater- and a blanket I frequently have around my shoulders. I work in a basement studio and I get very chilled when I paint so this is a common image of me as a painter. The imagery I’ve chosen to set myself in comes from my study of Tarot. The imaginary setting is inspired by a practice of relating numerological information from our birthdates to tarot imagery. This combination of painting from imagination and from observation is of particular interest to me as I am fascinated by the different kinds of sight –physical, imagination, spiritual, symbolic and the illusions of them all. It was finally very important for me to have done the portrait smiling to express my joyful state of inner peace.
