ARTIST STATEMENT
Portrait of the sculptor Christiane Stolhofer
Christiane Stolhofer is a thistledown being who has gone wherever the wind blows her. After a lifetime spent in Europe, Africa and India, she has finally drifted to rest in rural New Brunswick. On visiting her there, I was fascinated by the local stones that seemed like ancient shattered teeth and bone. I posed her in a cleft of rock tucked under tree roots. The textures of skin, bark and stone weathered and cracked by age and the elements seemed so connected, as if she was a spirit born of the earth.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Iris Hauser was born in Cranbrook, BC in 1956. After studies in Victoria (1973/74), Nova Scotia (1975), Saskatoon (1977-79) and Germany (1980-81), she moved to Saskatoon to take up permanent residence. Her work has been collected by many patrons, including the Canada Council Art Bank, the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, the Kenderdine Art gallery and the Remai Modern Art Gallery in Saskatoon, and the Mann Gallery in Prince Albert. She has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions in public and private galleries throughout western Canada and in Germany. Recent paintings may be viewed at irishauser.ca
