I asked Ted what he had told his son Steven about his tours in Afghanistan. “Nothing,” he replied with a levelling gaze. “What will you tell me that can inform this portrait?” I then inquired. “All you need to know you can read in the news paper,” was his answer. I have therefore entitled this portrait “Silence”.
