Artist Statement
Using a restricted pallet of black and white, I paint large-scale portraits of those who surround me. Painting my peers allows me to create pseudo self-portraits over and over again. Anxieties, trepidations and doubts found within myself are explored through the faces of my subjects. In the act of photographing and selecting an image, I project myself upon the often-haunting gazes of my friends, family and acquaintances. The paintings are a somber presage of what’s next while serving to highlight the importance of acknowledging right now.
