Growing up as a First Nations individual in small town Geraldton Ontario, I was often asked if I painted like Norval Morrisseau and my answer was always no. I simply did not have the vision of that man and his contemporaries, to replicate his and their style. The painting you are viewing has pretty much stayed the course throughout my life as a casual artist. While in high school I was often asked to paint portraits of people in watercolour. Deciding I could make more money in commercial arts, I became educated in Graphic Design and have been working in the field ever since. Throughout the years my art has taken a back seat. It has only been in the last few years that I have begun to concentrate on doing portraits in oil. I have always been interested in figurative painting, looking to such artists as Ken Danby, Norman Rockwell and William Bouguereau for inspiration and direction. Recently I have been painting for pure enjoyment as well as to further my technical skills as an artist. On a deeper level, I look to capture moments of truth that attests’ individual significance on behalf of the subject. While my career as a Fine Artist has been minimal, my intent is to paint full time. My passion for art and portraiture continues to grow stronger.
