I was interested in exploring the notion of the painted self-portrait and its intriguing relationship of painter as subject, as well as my awareness within this construct. What am I actually ‘seeing’ or percieving as self? What choices am I making in the construction of the painting ie. composition, context, mood? In this self-portrait, I chose to crop the composition onto a larger canvas to eliminate context but not the awareness of it and attempt to focus on self, as a state of mind.
