2026 Exhibition to be held at Arta Gallery
This year’s exhibition will once again be held at Arta Gallery in Toronto’s historic Distillery District. The exhibition will open on Friday, October 30, and run through Sunday, November 8, with our Awards Gala taking place on Friday, November 6.
This year’s exhibition also overlaps with the opening weekend of Art Toronto, creating a wonderful opportunity for visitors from across Canada and abroad to experience both events in one trip. The venues are only about a dozen city blocks apart, making it easy to enjoy two of Canada’s premier visual arts events in a single weekend.
Working with the Portrait Gallery of Canada
The Kingston Prize is now working in cooperation with the Portrait Gallery of Canada. While the Portrait Gallery currently operates as an online institution, its leadership continues to work tirelessly toward establishing a permanent physical gallery. Canada remains the only G7 nation without a National Portrait Gallery, and in that respect, our two organizations share a common vision. Together, we hope to strengthen the appreciation of portraiture and celebrate the remarkable people who define our country.

Madonna in a Tulip Chair Acquired
Finally, I am delighted to share that last year’s winning portrait, Madonna in a Tulip Chair by Louise Kermode, has been acquired by The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery in St. John’s. The Rooms is planning a public event this October celebrating the acquisition.
